Flex- Creating Your First Application (Video Tutorial)

Getting ready to Work with Flex
Adobe Flex is a platform and you are not required to own the Flex Builder software to use it. The Flex Builder software is, however, highly recommended. The Flex Builder is a modification of the freely available Eclipse IDE. You will need the Flex Builder software for this tutorial. (If you want to use the Flex Platform without Flex Builder you can enter the code in any text editor and compile it using Adobe’s free command line compile tools. If you go this route you’re on your own as far as setting up the tools– Using Adobe Flex without Flex Builder really is for experts, anyway).

If you don’t have Flex Builder you can get it from Adobe as a free download. Visit the Adobe site, use the downloads link and navigate to the Flex Professional Download Page. The available 60 day trial version can be downloaded in two forms:
• If you already have the Eclipse IDE, download Flex Builder 3 as an Eclipse Plug in. This will integrated the Flex tools, components, etc., with your existing Eclipse environments.
• If you don’t have Eclipse, or would simply prefer to segregate the Flex Builder from your existing Eclipse environment, download the full Flex Builder 3 trial.
Once you install the Adobe Flex Builder, or the plug-in, you’re ready to roll.

This video tutorial (in two parts) will demonstrate the rest of what you need to know to develop an interactive Flex Application.

    A great start, thanks.
I think Flex is the next step for me.

Can you call a PHP-script and put your name in a database on your next TV-Show?

    Or just show POST/GET :-)

    Thanks again

Hey, I just downloaded Flex 3 and when I try to run it (view it in my web browser) it pulls it up in Dreamweaver. It’s driving me crazy and I can’t figure out how to make it pull up in my web browser instead. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
